John Hopkins researchers examined four studies of medical fatality rates from 2000 to 2008 and used hospital admission rates from 2013 to reach their conclusion. They estimate that 9.5 percent of all fatalities in the United States each year resulting from medical errors. However, according to the CDC, the top three causes of fatality in 2013 were heart disease, cancer, and chronic respiratory disease.
